Family Promise - Interfaith Hospitality Network of Gloucester County
For over three years, we at Redeemer have been actively involved in Family Promise - Interfaith Hospitality Network of Gloucester County. This program provides homeless families an opportunity to achieve stability while utilizing resources within local congregations and the community. Redeemer is one of many congregations of all faiths that are involved in the program. While there are no religious obligations to the participants, we believe that the "love of Christ" is evident in the atmosphere we provide.
Our congregation hosts the participating families two or three times a year. Many volunteers are involved in the hosting, which consists of transporting the guests to and from the church (from the center), providing delicious and nutritious dinners, and providing a warm and safe place to sleep. We have served at least 25 - 30 families so far and believe that this vital ministry will be a part of Redeemer for many years to come.
Anyone is welcome to volunteer. Drivers are always needed - either transporting guests back to the Williamstown center in the am @ 5:30am or picking them up at the center @ 5:30pm to bring to the church for the night. Overnight hosts are vital to the program - bring a sleeping bag and a friend and spend the night with the families (in a seperate sleeping area) from 7:30pm to 5:30am. Redeemer has always been complimented on our delicious dinners that we serve - anyone who may want to provide a dinner (home cooked not a requirement) and eat with the families is welcome to volunteer. Lastly, volunteers are always needed in setting up cots on the day of arrival, taking down cots on day of departure, driving the van & trailer to the next congregation, and laundering of linens after the guests leave.
For more information on the program, or to volunteer to help serve the next group coming in November, please contact Brenda Ackley - 856-692-3052.
